REGISTRATION
You register for PayBill with your bank but this process is paperless and over the phone. To register for PayBill you have multiple options to choose from: Call your bank's phone number directly or call PayBill.
Yes you can do that in near future very soon. You can check if your bank offers PayBill. You can keep checking on this www.paybill.com.np or with your bank.
Absolutely. Since you register for PayBill with your bank and not any third party, there is no scope for your banking or personal details to get leaked.
Once your bank completes the phone verification, you will receive the PIN via SMS within 48 hrs. You will also receive instructions on how to change your PIN instantly.
Surely. In fact the moment we send you the PIN, we insist you change the PIN to something you can easily remember. This can be done via SMS itself. Just send CP (Old Pin) (New Pin) to your service provider.
SECURITY
Using PayBill is possibly as secure as payments can get for multiple reasons:
You never divulge your bank account details to anyone.
Every transaction has to be authorized by your 4-digit PIN which is known only to you.
The PIN needs to be sent from your very mobile number and not some other, thereby ensuring
that you are the one authorizing the transaction
Every transaction also has a different 3 alphabet code (or Alpha Code) which is hard
coded in the SMS and authenticated by the user. This is an added layer of security apart
from your PIN.
Unless someone knows your PayBill PIN, there's no way your lost or stolen phone can be misused for payments. Hence after every transaction we remind you to not store your PIN in your mobile or sent items. Also, just incase you lose your mobile; the first thing you would do is call your operator and get the SIM deactivated. Once this is done, the phone is not capable of making payments in any case.
It does not matter since the person cannot do a transaction unless he or she has your very mobile. PIN and Alpha Code authorizations must happen from your number.
No, PayBill discourages sharing of PIN information with any of your friends, relatives, spouses as there can be chances of mis-use.
PayBill/Bank will never ask your PIN hence we request not to disclose it to anyone.
Your transaction will get declined. You will then have to do a fresh transaction.
Yes. A maximum value of Rs. 5000 per transaction and up to Rs. 10000 a day.
Absolutely. This is an auto generated PIN from highly secure systems and is not known to any person other than you.
Approved by banking standards and guidelines these systems are highly secure and automated. All transactions happens through secure links and secure servers with no possibility of information leakage since there is no human involvement.
HOW IT WORKS
It's just one SMS.
Once you choose to pay via PayBill at any of the accredited merchants, all you have to share is your mobile number. You will instantly receive a SMS (with the merchant name and amount) asking for authorization of payment via PIN and re-entering the alpha code mentioned in the SMS. Once you reply to this SMS, within a few seconds your bank will authenticate the details and debit the amount to your account. You will instantly receive a confirmation of the same via SMS and the merchants system will also get updated with the status.
This dynamic 3 alphabet code is an added layer of security for every transaction that you do and is different every time you pay. This "alpha-code" is mentioned in the SMS you get when paying and all you need to do is re-enter it along with your Pin. For e.g. when paying Rs 100 bill at Muncha.com the SMS you get will be "Muncha.com" wants to charge you Rs 100. To authorize payment reply to this SMS by sending PAY ABC (Your Pin) e.g. PAY ABC 1234 if your PIN is "1234". In this transaction ABC is the alpha-code which you need to re-enter with your PIN. While your PIN remains the same, the alpha-code differs for every transaction and is mentioned in the incoming SMS.
Once you reply to the SMS to authorize payment, the details hit the secure banking systems where the mobile number, alpha-code and PIN are authenticated before debiting your account. The process is completely automated and happens on highly secure banking connections and servers. At no stage will you be asked to reveal your PIN to any person from the merchant, bank or PayBill.
Since your mobile number is mapped to your bank account, all charges are debited accordingly. This means they would reflect in your monthly statements sent by your bank.
No. Currently one mobile number can be linked to any one account that you may prefer. However, in future we will certainly offer the option to link multiple accounts to your mobile.
Definitely in near future. Since your mobile number is linked to your bank account and the charges appear in your bank statement, you still earn all your points and rewards.
In case of dispute on the product, you need to get in touch with the merchant and follow their process. In case of dispute in the amount or charge, you will have to speak to your respective bank.
MANAGING YOUR ACCOUNT
All you have to do is call your bank and inform them of the same so that your account is de-linked from the old mobile number and linked to the new one.
You will need to inform your prior bank that you wish to deactivate the service and thereafter register again for PayBill with your new bank.
PayBill has strong anti-spamming guidelines to ensure that your mobile number is never shared for any marketing purposes unless opted for by you. However, PayBill may with your permission keep you informed of special offers and promotions on a timely basis.
